Important new service improvements in public transport
The railway company FLP (Ferrovie Luganesi SA) which operates in the lower Malcantone and connects Lugano and Ponte Tresa is
celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012.
Thanks to a series of long-term investments the railway today can guarantee service running every 15 minutes during the day (weekdays),
and every 30 minutes during the evening, weekends, and holidays, with every train composition including an easy-access, low-platform wagon.
For many years the company has been pursuing the goal of persuading more car commuters to switch to rail and leave the congested -- and at times
impassible -- roads of the lower Malcantone behind.
To this end it has recently increased the available parking spaces at the following stations: Ponte Tresa (55), Caslano (67), Magliaso (81), Agno (8),
Bioggio (21), Bioggio Molinazzo (8), Capella-Agnuzzo (38) and Sorengo Laghetto (8). In addition, the connections to SBB trains and Post buses have
been improved.
More than 40 employees are committed to providing efficient, reliable, and safe service, responding to the particular needs of commuters,
tourists, and students.
Passengers on the 12 km line can enjoy panoramic views of Lake Lugano and the beautiful surrounding regions.
The number of passengers is increasing steadily thanks to the improved services and the introduction of attractive subscription prices by the
tariff association ARCOBALENO.
